Heritage events @ St James'

Heritage events @ St James'

St James’ church is teaming up with Wallasey Historical Society to host a photographic exhibition in the church during Wirral Heritage Open days from 6th to 16th September. The photographs are selected from over 1500 glass negatives and lantern slides of local scenes dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries which have been digitally scanned. Prints will be available for purchase, but entrance to the exhibition is free.

Other events at the church include a book signing by New Brighton author Stephen Done, who will be talking about his latest crime novel Cold Steel Rail and signing it in the church’s Wave Café on Tuesday 11th September from 1pm. On Friday 14th there will be an organ recital in church by Professor Ian Tracey, tickets are £12 for adults and £6 for under 18s. Professor Tracey is one of the world’s leading organists, frequently giving recitals in USA, Australia and Europe. On Sunday 9th the church choir will sing a traditional Choral Evensong at 6.30pm.

St James’ will be open daily from 11am to 1pm throughout Wirral Heritage Open Days, when you can visit the New Brighton Heritage Centre situated in the church as well as the photographic exhibition. St James’ will also be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays 8th and 15th September when guided tours and refreshments will be on offer.

Revd Heather Atkinson says “We are delighted to have so much going on at St James’ during Wirral Heritage Open Days. I hope that many visitors from Wirral and beyond will come and view the beauty of our historic church and enjoy some of the cultural events we are staging.”
